Personality:

Johnny doesn't believe in following anyone else's rules except for his own and doesn't take kindly to being told what to do. He keeps his cool for the most part, but isn't immune to the occasional fit of irrationality. His general demeanor is rather spacey and detached, which causes others to view him as very suave and confident, when in reality he just doesn't care much about most things. He isn't unhappy, but he isn't a very smiley person and rarely laughs. Johnny only becomes focused, alert, and energetic while committing robberies or riding his horse across the desert.

As he was brought up to be very independent, Johnny knows exactly how to take care of himself (only if other people aren't factored in at all) and has no concerns over his own safety; he trusts himself and his horse to the fullest.

Johnny is rather vain and is used to attention from the opposite sex; he enjoys the finer things in life, such as expensive dinners and liquors. He tends to pout when forced to endure substandard variations of such things. His vanity is very persistent; he cares about his reputation and expresses concern over any action or behavior that may tarnish it. He doesn't want to appear weak or, for lack of a better term, "uncool." He becomes flustered when his image is threatened.

Johnny tends to come off as an asshole. He is generally quiet and keeps to himself, but when interacting with others he possesses no filter nor any concept of politeness. He sees no problem in saying exactly what he thinks, no matter whose feelings are injured or who he angers. His tactlessness has caused many a saloon brawl. He is capable of utilizing manners and general polite etiquette, but only when it suits him.

Johnny doesn't put much salt into the importance of the lives of others. While it is against his morals to kill children, and usually women, he never thinks twice about putting a bullet through a grown man's skull. As an outlaw, he believes firmly that all criminal activity in the west is justified due to the sheer corruption of those representing the law there. He doesn't believe there are any inherently good men left in the west, himself included.

It is exceptionally rare for Johnny to become close to anyone. For him, there is no in-between with other people; he either doesn't care about them, or he'd die for them. It's rare for him to actually hold a grudge or feel genuine hatred towards someone, and it's rare for him to hold onto casual friendships. When he does become attached to someone and forms a close bond with them, he actually becomes rather affectionate (in his own weird ways).

Backstory:

Annamaria Clara Lumetta immigrated to the USA at the age of nineteen. She was a mail-order bride from Italy, traveling to Pennsylvania to meet her future husband, Robert Charles Tucker. Annamaria and Robert seemed to fall in love, and almost immediately after being wed conceived a child. Six months into Annamaria's pregnancy, however, in the year 1863, her husband went to fight for the Union in the Civil War. He died at Gettysburg on July 2nd. After receiving word of his death-shortly before her son was born-Annamaria decided to carry out Robert's previous plans to move the family out into the Western territories. She wasn't particularly experienced in any sort of manual labor, so naturally she turned to the profession which came most naturally and easily to her; Annamaria became a prostitute in a shantytown along the in-production railroad just a few months after Johnny was born.

Johnny grew up among the very lowest kind of people. He bore witness to all sorts of abuse and injustice committed against the brothel women and the poor of the town, such as the railroad workers and immigrant population. Johnny decided at a very early age that there was no such thing as justice-or at least, not in his part of the world-and therefore deduced that he could commit whatever he crimes he liked without feeling guilt or remorse. He began pick-pocketing at the age of seven and learned to shoot a gun at nine. Four years later, just after his thirteenth birthday, Johnny killed a man for the first time. He was an overseer for the railroad company who'd stopped in at the brothel for some pleasurable company, and his companion for the evening ended up being Annamaria. The more the man drank, the more volatile he became, and when Annamaria refused to give him "the full package", he slapped her to the floor and unhooked his belt, planning to whip her into submission with it. Unbeknownst to him, Johnny always hung around rather close when rowdy customers were about, and the moment he'd seen his mother hit the floor, he snapped. He took his hand-me-down pistol and shot the man through the gut. The overseer bled out on the floor of the room and from that day forward, Johnny had no inhibitions about killing those he felt deserved it.

For a brief, undefined period of time between the ages of fourteen and fifteen, Johnny actually had a real job cleaning glasses in the local saloon. It was short-lived, however, and by seventeen his fulltime occupation was robbing banks and stagecoaches. He acquired his black stallion, whom he so creatively christened "Buddy", a year prior, when he was sixteen. He stole Buddy as a colt before the animal could be branded for the U.S Calvary and put into service for the country, and from then on the two shared an unbreakable bond.

By the time he was nineteen, Johnny's wanted poster hung in nearly every town south of the states-territory border. He'd taken to robbing trains, partially because the payload was at least five times the amount any bank or stagecoach could offer him, but mostly because of the incredible rush of adrenaline the dangerous activity gave him. He became very, very good at train robberies very quickly, and thus earned himself infamy among his fellow outlaws as well as the law. He kept on this way, having odd misadventures and making even odder acquaintances along the way, until he was twenty-two and what should have been an absolutely mundane robbery went horribly astray, thanks to the efforts of a certain uppity chinchilla.
